Gary D. St. Hilaire is president & CEO of Capital BlueCross.
Mr. St. Hilaire has 25 years experience in and around health care. He has served as an entrepreneur, a financial leader and a health care executive in both the for-profit and non-profit arenas. His areas of expertise include health plan management, financial management, business turnarounds, acquisitions and divestitures, raising venture capital, start-up operations and business strategy.
He first joined Capital BlueCross in August of 2005 as senior vice president & CFO. He was promoted to executive vice president in 2009 before assuming his role as president in September 2010, where his responsibilities included oversight of strategy and all business operations. In July 2012, Mr. St. Hilaire was promoted to CEO.
Before joining Capital BlueCross, he helped co-found and was CFO of the health care technology company Choicelinx, which developed consumer engagement tools and consumer-directed health care products. Achieving success as an industry innovator, Mr. St. Hilaire worked with his colleagues in the successful sale of Choicelinx to Cigna Corporation, where the company still operates today as a wholly-owned subsidiary.
Prior to Choicelinx, Mr. St. Hilaire was executive vice president & CFO at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, a $4-plus billion health plan at the time that now serves over three million members. During his tenure, he worked with the senior management team to lead a $200+ million turnaround and drive growth.
Before joining Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Mr. St. Hilaire spent six years at Healthsource, Inc. - a publicly traded managed care company - in various financial management and provider contracting roles, including vice president and corporate controller.
Mr. St. Hilaire currently serves as chair of the board of directors for Harrisburg-based Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, is the Capital Region Campaign Chair for Easter Seals, and is a board member and volunteer with several local youth organizations.
He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in management advisory services from Southern New Hampshire University.
