Capital BlueCross Products Receive Excellent National Accreditation

Company performs exceptionally well in key clinical categories

HARRISBURG, Pa. (June 22, 2012) – Capital BlueCross product lines received Excellent Health Plan Accreditation from The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of America’s health care.

The company’s commercial and Medicare (SeniorBlue) Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) products, issued by Keystone Health Plan Central; and Point of Service (POS) product, issued by Capital Advantage Insurance Company, received high overall ratings in five categories that are often viewed as key indicators of a plan’s success. They were rated as to the quality of access to care and service; the excellence of our provider network; the ability to help consumers stay healthy with innovative health and wellness programs; the ability to help people get better when they do get sick and need services; and on our chronic illness management programs.

Within these categories, the company performed exceptionally well in the following key clinical areas: using a progressive approach to health care delivery, implementing robust intervention and measurement of complex case management, employing innovative technologies to manage the health status of individuals as well as populations, and comprehensive oversight of clinical vendors.

The accreditation process, which takes place every three years, encompassed a comprehensive review of Capital BlueCross’ business functions and initiatives, including the quality program, clinical programs, health education and wellness, coordination of care programs such as Accountable Care Arrangements, utilization management practices, marketing and communication, customer service, privacy compliance and ethics oversight, and Web technology. Capital BlueCross has a history of performing well.
