Capital BlueCross sets corporate record for funds raised in one night to support Bowl For Kids’ Sake
HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 24, 2012) – Capital BlueCross employees showed up in large numbers recently at ABC East Lanes in Harrisburg to Bowl for Kids’ Sake, setting a one-night fundraising record of more than $20,000. Cumulatively over the past four years, Capital BlueCross has raised about $55,000 for this annual event.
Funds raised go directly into the Big Brothers Big Sisters operational budget, which supports all mentoring services that they operate. These include school based and community based mentoring which are one-to-one professionally supported mentoring relationships between an adult volunteer and a child.
“Every dollar we raise helps children get one step closer to reaching their potential, through professionally supported one-to-one relationships,” said Asheleigh Forsburg, Big Brothers Big Sisters Special Events Director “So the significant fundraising efforts of Capital Blue Cross mean that children in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon and Perry counties can continue on their path to reaching their potential.”
As a locally-headquartered company, Capital BlueCross has a long history of volunteering, sponsoring and fundraising for community initiatives and organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake.
“I may be the world’s worst bowler, but the great thing about this event is the way it shows how Capital employees reach out and support the communities we serve,” said Mike Merenda, Capital BlueCross Executive Vice President who took the fundraising lead for the company. “This was a great showing for Big Brothers Big Sisters and we see that same spirit in our employee support of other community organizations who count on corporate giving.”
