Popular local author Jack McCallum talks candidly about prostate cancer during a free public program at Capital Blue

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2013) – The public is invited to meet local author Jack McCallum as he discusses the challenges of prostate cancer from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.14 at the Capital Blue health and wellness retail store in Center Valley, Pa. McCallum, of Bethlehem, Pa., is the author of 10 books, including The Prostate Monologues, a look through the lens of his personal experience with prostate cancer.

In a humorous yet educational manner, McCallum answers the questions about prostate cancer that most men think about, but are too bashful to ask their doctors. For example, find out what McCallum has to say about “what it’s like the first time you shop for adult diapers.”

“Anyone dealing with prostate cancer or supporting a loved one with prostate cancer will want to attend this free program,” said Tom Peluso, director of Capital Blue. “Learning from and sharing with others who are going through the same experience is powerful medicine. We are very fortunate to have Jack McCallum here to talk about his journey, share what he has learned, and answer any questions participants have.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, about 242,000 prostate cancer diagnoses were made in the United States in 2012. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, right behind skin cancer.

Located in the Promenade Shops, Capital Blue is a health and wellness retail store focused on customer choice and healthy living, and is designed to provide one-stop shopping to explore insurance options and discover fun ways to engage in good health. The store was opened in December 2012 by Capital BlueCross, the region’s leading health insurer.
