Harrisburg - Capital BlueCross today reaffirmed its commitment to offering health insurance products to individual consumers on the Federally Facilitated Marketplace in 2017. Due to market changes brought about by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and competitor dynamics, the company must necessarily reduce the number of plans available.

In turn, this has placed difficult financial burdens on consumers and created challenges for the long-term financial sustainability of many consumer products. Reducing the number of individual products we will offer on the Federally Facilitated Marketplace for 2017 will help ensure we can fulfill our long-term commitment to offering individual products that provide access to quality health care for years to come.”
The open enrollment period to choose an individual plan for 2017 starts Nov.1 and ends Dec.15 for coverage effective Jan.1, 2017.
