Capital BlueCross Encourages Participation in
National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Drop-off locations to accept unused or expired prescription medications Saturday, October 22

Harrisburg, Pa – Capital BlueCross is encouraging people in central Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley to participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day this Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The national event is an opportunity to bring unused or expired prescription medications to local drop-off locations so they can be properly and safely disposed.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), is a collaboration between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. To find a drop-off location near you, visit the DEA's website and enter your zip code.

Drop-off locations are also available year-round in certain locations. For more information, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Program's website where locations are listed by county.

Capital BlueCross is a leader in fighting the opioid and heroin crisis in Pennsylvania. The company has contributed $150,000 to provide law enforcement officers with naloxone, a drug that can reverse a potentially fatal overdose. Naloxone works by blocking the opioid receptors in the brain and temporarily restores breathing in someone who has overdosed on prescription painkillers or heroin. It is easily administered by being sprayed into each nostril.
