After Hours Care

Medically necessary care is available for members after regular office hours.

In the case of a true emergency, the first concern is to obtain necessary medical treatment immediately, so members should seek care from the nearest appropriate facility provider.

In the event of an urgent situation within the Capital BlueCross service area, HMO and POS members should contact their Primary Care Physician (PCP) who will provide or otherwise coordinate care. If a member is outside of the service area and cannot reach their PCP in advance of receiving urgent care services, they should notify their PCP by the next business day. Urgent care is medical care for an unexpected illness or injury that does not require emergency services, but which may need prompt medical attention to minimize severity and prevent complications.
