What is Short Term Coverage?

Short Term Coverage is a Comprehensive Major Medical, temporary health insurance plan issued by Capital BlueCross and Capital Advantage Insurance Company that covers hospitalization, medical/surgical and more, with services subject to deductibles and coinsurance – all for a low premium.

Is Short Term Coverage right for me?

This plan makes good sense for many people.  Short Term Coverage is an excellent choice if you’re without health insurance coverage and:

  • Recently unemployed and feel coverage under COBRA is too expensive
  • A recent graduate
  • A temporary or seasonal employeeBetween jobs
  • Waiting for employer coverage to begin
Can I get Short Term Coverage for myself and my family?

Absolutely!  This plan was designed for a wide variety of short-term health insurance needs.  You can get coverage for yourself, your spouse – or the whole family!

What if I get a job during my policy term?

If you become covered by another plan while the policy is in force, premiums paid for this policy are nonrefundable.

What if I decide I don’t want this policy after I submitted my application?

If you are not satisfied with this policy, you may return it within 10 days along with a note that states you do not want it.  Your premium is returned, however, the application fee is nonrefundable.  Please note that if there was a paid claim during this 10-day period, your premium refund may be adjusted.

When is my coverage effective?

The policy takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the 1st or the 15th of the month.  A date may be specified up to 30 days in the future.

Will I receive an ID card?

Yes.  You will receive a contract, an outline of coverage and prescription discount information.

Does Short Term Coverage pay for routine doctor visits?

No.  The plan does not pay for routine visits, but does pay for doctor visits due to illness or injury.

Am I covered for pre-existing conditions?

The policy does not cover pre-existing conditions. A pre-existing condition is any condition that within a 12-month period immediately preceding the effective date of coverage there was a condition, injury, or illness for which medical advice or treatment was recommended by a physician or received from a physician. Other exclusions apply. Contact us for additional information.

What if I need more coverage after my policy expires?

If you still need temporary coverage after your policy expires, you may apply for another new Short Term Coverage policy with coverage up to an additional six months.  The new policy term will be subject to a new deductible.  The new policy will not cover any preexisting condition, illness, or injury including those that developed during your original policy term.  You may purchase up to two consecutive Short Term Coverage policies.
