Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition and Activity

(PANA) Supports the Growth Screening Program

The 2005-2006 school year brings a change in the Pennsylvania Growth Screening Program. The Pennsylvania Department of Health now requires that schools record Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements for students in kindergarten through fourth grade and then inform parents of the results. Grades 5 through 8 will be added to the program in the 2006-2007 school year. The 2007-2008 school year will see the addition of grades 9 through 12. PANA supports the implementation of growth screening programs in schools. To learn more about PANA programs, events and trainings, visit www.panaonline.org .
