Do benefits begin on the date of employment?

Most full-time employee benefits, including health care coverage, life insurance and paid time off, begin on your first day. You have the opportunity to begin contributing to our 401(k) plan on the first of the month following your date of hire. After employment begins, tuition reimbursement is available for eligible courses and exams that receive advance approval by Human Resources.
 

Does Capital BlueCross honor service time from other Blue Plans?

If certain conditions are met, you may be given credit for service time at another licensed Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield entity. Credit may be given toward Retirement Plan vesting and paid time off accrual.
 

I currently contribute to a 401(k) plan. If I am hired by Capital BlueCross, may I rollover my distribution to the Employee Savings Plan? When can I start contributing?

Our 401(k) plan accepts rollovers from tax-qualified savings or retirement plans, as well as from certain individual retirement accounts (IRAs) at any point in your employment. You will need to provide information about where your money is currently invested and certify that the money qualifies for rollover into the 401(k) plan. If enrollment paperwork is promptly completed and returned, you can begin contributing within the first month of employment. The company provides matching contributions, and they are immediately 100% vested.
 

Do you have a part-time employee benefits package?

Yes. Many, but not all, of the programs noted on the Benefits Review are also available to part-time employees.
 

What vacation, sick and personal time benefits are offered?

Under our Paid Time Off (PTO) Program, you will have PTO available to you beginning on your date of hire and earn more PTO each pay period. The PTO program covers your time off for vacation, illness and personal reasons. The PTO program also offers a cash-out feature for eligible employees.

How many company-paid holidays do you provide?

Full-time employees are paid for eight company holidays. Part-time employees may use paid time off to be paid when the company is closed for business.

What types of job opportunities are available?

We offer jobs in sales, finance, information technology, management, and customer service. Jobs specific to the health care and insurance businesses include those in actuarial science, clinical management, nursing, provider service, and claims processing. Are there opportunities for advancement within the company?

We pride ourselves on our internal job posting program that gives employees new career opportunities to build their business knowledge and strengthen our company. Open jobs are posted first for internal applicants on a weekly basis. Human Resources offers job counseling services to help employees as they explore career options.

Where do employees park and is there a fee?

Free parking is provided to all Capital BlueCross employees. Parking is provided on-site at all locations, except for our Allentown office. At our Allentown office, some employees park on-site, while others park at a nearby parking facility. On-site parking availability is determined by seniority and job function. Designated handicapped parking spaces are provided at all locations as well.

What is the dress code?

Each department determines its own dress code. Some departments have incorporated business casual attire while other areas require professional business attire.

Is there an on-site cafeteria?

Full-service cafeterias and vending services are available at our Harrisburg locations: the Elmerton Avenue, TecPort and West Shore buildings. Vending services and lunch/break rooms are provided at our Allentown location.

Are Capital BlueCross facilities tobacco-free?

Capital BlueCross is committed to making a difference in our communities, and that includes providing a healthy workplace for our employees and all who visit our offices. As of April 1, 2007, the use of tobacco products is not permitted anywhere on company property. Resources are available to assist employees and their family members in ending tobacco dependence.
