David B. Skerpon
Vice President, Retail Strategies & Brand Management
David Skerpon is Vice President of Retail Strategies & Brand Management for Capital BlueCross. He is responsible for developing and executing the company’s retail strategy and for protecting and growing its brand in all current and prospective markets.
Mr. Skerpon joined Capital BlueCross in October of 2007 after a 23-year career in the banking industry. Immediately prior to joining Capital BlueCross, Mr. Skerpon was Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Officer at Commerce Bank. He also worked at Mellon Bank where he held numerous positions including Branch Manager, Market Manager, District Manager, Retail Banking Head and Regional President. Earlier in his career, Mr. Skerpon worked for Citizens and Northern Bank first as a Teller then as a Loan Officer.
Throughout his career, Mr. Skerpon has been a community leader. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board of the Mental Health Association of the Capital Region. He is also a board member of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, United Way Foundation , The Joshua Group, The Children's Home Foundation, and the Fulton Opera House, Lancaster, Pa. Mr. Skerpon also is on the advisory board of Mid Penn Bank.
In recent years, he served as Chairperson of the Art Association of Harrisburg, United Way of the Capital Region, and the Allied Arts Fund, and on the boards of Jump Street and the Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania. He successfully ran the annual campaigns for the United Way of the Capital Region and for the Allied Arts Fund. Mr. Skerpon also served on the boards of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Open Stage, Capital Area Economic Development Corporation, Harrisburg Area Community College Foundation, State System of Higher Education Foundation, and Council for Public Education.
In addition to supporting and serving on boards, Mr. Skerpon has chaired the Taste of South Central Pennsylvania, led Gaudenzia’s annual Gala, and chaired Capital Area Intermediate Unit’s Champions for Children’s Campaign with a goal to raise $2.2 million dollars. Mr. Skerpon was Chair-Elect of the 2010 Cultural Enrichment Fund Campaign.
Mr. Skerpon has been recognized by the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal’s “Forty Under Forty Top Business Leaders.” In 2006, he received an award from Leadership Harrisburg as a “20 Leaders/20 Years” recipient. In 2010, Mr. Skerpon received the Community Champion Leadership Award from Gaudenzia and in May of 2011, received the Capital Area School of the Arts Champion of Arts Education Award.
Mr. Skerpon is a graduate of Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management, University of Virginia.
