Capital BlueCross Chief Medical Officer Honored with Prestigious Penn State University Alumni Award

Dr. Jennifer Chambers named 2017 Alumni Fellow for distinguished career

Harrisburg – Capital BlueCross today announced that Pennsylvania State University has recognized Dr. Jennifer Chambers, the company’s chief medical officer and senior vice president for clinical solutions, as a 2017 Alumni Fellow for her outstanding work in the medical field.

Since joining Capital BlueCross in 2007, Chambers has led clinical innovation, health care quality and patient safety initiatives, and medical policy for the company. She also has driven efforts to expand provider and community partnerships to improve care for people throughout Capital BlueCross’ 21-county Pennsylvania service area.

In addition to her leadership at Capital BlueCross, Chambers is an outspoken advocate for greater access to health care for all Pennsylvanians. She champions programs that provide quality and compassionate care for patients across the health continuum, including those who are chronically ill and near the end of life. Chambers formed her perspectives on end-of-life care during her experience directing the Palliative Medicine Program at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

“Dr. Chambers’ wealth of knowledge and experience serve our members in very positive and meaningful ways,” said Gary D. St. Hilaire, president and CEO of Capital BlueCross. “More importantly, she is both passionate and compassionate when it comes to our members and our mission.  We see her boundless dedication to improving lives every day. Dr. Chambers is most deserving of this prestigious Penn State award, and we are proud and privileged to have her as a leader and member of our Capital BlueCross team.”

Chambers also is an advocate for those who are in need or underserved. She serves as board chair of Keystone Autism Services, as board vice chair for Keystone Human Services, and as a board member of the Healthcare Improvement Foundation. Her community involvement and commitment to improving the lives of others earned her recognition by the Central Penn Business Journal as a Woman of Influence in 2014.

Chambers earned her master’s in business administration and her Doctor of Medicine degree from Penn State University. She is also board certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine. Additionally, she is a graduate of the Leadership Harrisburg Area class of 2011.
