In fact, Capital Blue Cross members with chronic conditions and no Capital Blue Cross Dental coverage had a seven percent higher incidence rate of inpatient hospital stays than similar Capital Blue Cross Dental members who receive a preventive dental service, and Capital Blue Cross members with Capital Blue Cross Dental coverage who did not get preventive dental care had a 19 percent higher incidence rate of emergency department visits than members with Capital Blue Cross Dental coverage who received preventive dental services.
