How Capital Blue Cross members can save on GLP-1s and fertility drugs – even when they aren’t covered

Prescription drug pricing has become increasingly complex. The same medication may be available at different prices depending upon where and how it’s purchased.
Platforms like TrumpRx, drug discount cards, or direct-to-consumer programs offered by drug manufacturers are giving consumers more ways to access discounted prices when filling their prescription.
The result is a fragmented system where the lowest price isn’t always obvious – and can be easy to miss.
Capital Blue Cross’ MedsYourWay®1 cost savings tool gives members a single, streamlined way to capture lowest-cost options – including GLP-1s and fertility drugs – even when a medication isn’t covered under their prescription drug benefit.
“Employers are looking for ways to manage their pharmacy spend without adding complexity,” said Andy Dum, Director of Commercial Pharmacy at Capital Blue Cross. “This kind of integration allows them to do both – reduce costs and keep the experience simple for their employees.”
A simpler way to find savings
Instead of requiring members to compare prescription drug coverage, drug manufacturer programs, drug discount cards, and direct-to-consumer sites on their own, Capital’s ID card enables real-time price comparisons at the pharmacy counter and applies the lowest-cost available option at checkout.
Why integration matters
“The reality is there are multiple prices for the same drug depending on how and where you access it,” Dum said. “That creates opportunity for savings, but it also creates confusion when those options aren’t coordinated.”
That coordination is exactly what MedsYourWay is intended to provide – bringing together traditional prescription drug plan pricing and alternative discount channels so Capital Blue Cross members don’t have to decide which path will deliver the best value.
At the pharmacy counter, members simply present their Capital Blue Cross ID card. The system then determines whether the prescription drug benefit or an alternative pricing source delivers the lowest available out-of-pocket cost and applies that option automatically.
For medications covered under a member’s plan, those purchases continue to count toward deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. For non-covered drugs, the tool can connect members to alternative pricing sources that may help them access savings similar to direct-to-consumer pricing from drug manufacturers and other direct-to-consumer pharmacy programs.
Turning a fragmented marketplace into a simpler experience
Eligible members can take advantage of MedsYourWay without any registration or enrollment. It is automatically available when they use their ID card at participating pharmacies.
Without this kind of coordination, members can miss lower-cost options already available in the market. By integrating MedsYourWay directly into the pharmacy experience, Capital Blue Cross helps ensure those savings are captured automatically – turning a fragmented pricing environment into a more seamless, one-stop experience at the point of sale.
“What matters most is that members can trust they’re getting the best available price without having to chase it down,” Dum said. “That’s what this integration is designed to do.”
