Behavioral health support
You’re not alone
At Capital Blue Cross, we believe that your mental and emotional well-being is just as important as your physical health. Whether you're managing stress, navigating a new diagnosis, or just don’t know where to start, we’re here to help you find the support and resources you need.
When to seek help
Behavioral health challenges can impact anyone. If you’re experiencing symptoms such as persistent sadness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, or difficulty concentrating for more than two weeks, it may be time to talk to a professional.
Behavioral health support can also be helpful when managing chronic conditions, coping with grief, or adjusting to major life changes.
Find help based on what you’re experiencing:
Are you anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed?
If you’re feeling this way, you’re not alone – and there are simple steps you can take to start feeling better.
- Start here with tips on talking to a provider about your mental health. Contact your primary care provider (PCP) or a behavioral health professional for support.
- You can also get help with these self-care tools:
- Use the National Institutes of Health Emotional Wellness Toolkit to learn new ways to handle stress and adapt to change.
- Explore stress management resources from the National Institute of Mental Health.
- Find more information and support at Mental Health America.
Have you been to the ER or hospitalized for behavioral health or substance use?
It’s normal to feel uncertain about what comes next. Follow-up care is crucial, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. These steps can help you get the care and support you need to move forward.
- Follow-up care is important for a successful recovery. Contact your PCP or a licensed therapist for follow-up within seven days of your ER visit or discharge. If you don’t have a PCP, MyCare Finder makes it easy to find an in-network provider convenient for you.
- Capital’s Care Management team is available Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-8:00 PM ET to support your recovery and help schedule follow-up care.
Are you looking for a mental health provider?
Finding the right mental health provider is easier than you might think. Here’s how to get started, whether through your PCP, convenient virtual care options, or our Care Management team.
Start with your PCP. They can help assess your needs, manage medications, and refer you to specialists. Or if you’re more comfortable, reach out directly to a mental health professional.
What kind of provider do I need?
Different types of providers provide support for behavioral health issues and substance use. You might see one type or many, depending on the treatment you need:
- Psychiatrists can prescribe medication and manage complex mental health conditions.
- Psychologists provide therapy and psychological testing.
- Licensed therapists and clinical social workers offer talk therapy and support for life’s challenges.
