How Capital Blue Cross members can save on GLP-1s and fertility drugs – even when they aren’t covered

Prescription drug prices aren’t always straightforward. The same medication can cost different amounts depending on how or where you access it, and the lowest price isn’t always obvious.

Figuring that out can mean checking a few different places and comparing options – something most people don’t have time to do. Your Capital Blue Cross member ID card is intended to make that part easier.

Capital’s MedsYourWay®1 cost savings tool provides a single, streamlined way to capture the lowest-priced options – including on GLP-1s and fertility drugs – even when a medication isn't covered under your prescription drug plan.

When you use your card at a participating pharmacy, MedsYourWay automatically checks available pricing options in real time and applies the lowest available price at the time of purchase. That may include your plan benefit, manufacturer programs, or other eligible discount sources. You don’t need to search multiple websites or compare offers yourself – your Capital Blue Cross member ID card helps simplify that step.

Do I need to do anything different?

Not really. You continue to use your Capital Blue Cross member ID card the same way you normally would when you pick up a prescription. There’s nothing to sign up for, download, or manage.

When your card is used at a participating pharmacy, the pricing comparison happens automatically behind the scenes. The system looks across the options that are available and applies the lowest available cost.

The idea is to take some of the uncertainty out of the process. Instead of wondering whether there might be a better price somewhere else, you get the lowest available price without having to do the research yourself or purchase from an alternative website.

What happens at the pharmacy counter?

When you present your card, the pharmacy system checks pricing options in real time. If your plan benefit offers the lowest available price, that’s what will be used. If another pricing source comes in lower, that option is applied instead.

In some cases, a medication may not be covered under your plan. Even then, your Capital Blue Cross member ID card may still help you access savings. The system can identify other pricing options that are available and apply them when they result in a lower cost.

“The goal is to make prescription pricing a little less complicated,” said Andy Dum, Director Commercial Pharmacy at Capital Blue Cross. “Instead of spending time comparing options or trying to figure out where you’ll pay the least, your Capital Blue Cross member ID card does that step for you.”

Members purchasing non-covered drugs can still receive a discount, if available, but this discount will not apply towards member’s accumulators.
